About Us

Marakura Yacht Club was formed in 1969.  The clubrooms were built from a building that was originally located at West Arm, Lake Manapouri, during the construction of the power station.  Much work has been done by club members over the years to make the building what it is today.

Our club rooms are well equipped with dinghy storage and changing rooms downstairs, and a kitchen, bar, dining/common room upstairs. We have a judges box for the running of races and a balcony running the length of the building.  This provides the perfect spot for those not sailing to enjoy our stunning view across the lake to the Fiordland mountains and is an excellent vantage point overlooking the area in which most of our "round the buoys" racing is held.

A number of our members regularly sail into the many remote locations of Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri.  If you are visiting the area and plan to do some cruising, contact one of our members and see if there are others heading out.
