Marakura 50th Anniversary Celebrations

50th Regatta update

It blew. It rained. It rained and blew... and then the sun came out. A great weekend was had by 50 boats and some excellent sailing excitement.

Trailer yacht results are ready and the initial dinghy placings are too with detail to follow soon.

Go Orange Logo

Proudly sponsored by Go Orange

Marakura are very grateful to Go Orange who are sponsors of our 50th Anniversary and regatta. They do a fantastic job in Milford and Doubtful as well as further afield. So if your extended crew find themselves needing something to do that's not sailing (!!??) point them in the direction of a great trip with Go Orange.

Sailing

The weekend would not be a Yacht Club celebration without a bit of sailing too!

We have a Race series as well as some social cruising over the weekend too for those with less of a competitive spirit.

NZTYA New Zealand Champs, NZTYA South Island Champs and Marakura's Easter Regatta

Our one-time Easter Regatta which has become the "Not-the-easter-regatta" in recent years, takes a return to its old diary dates. Open to all classes, dinghies and trailer sailors, this popular Regatta is one not to miss.

This year as part of the celebrations we will also be incorporating the NZTYA New Zealand Champs and also the NZTYA South Island Champs. So brush up on the speed-sailing and come along.

Open Bic class races

As part of the weekend we expecting a good turnout of Bics. This growing class of dinghies is fast becoming a new draw card for young sailors, not least our own small fleet.

Come and see how they're taking to the water, and if you're a Bic sailor, make sure you put the weekend on your calendar! Last year we hosted the NZ open Bic Fresh Water Champs and had 32 boats on the water. We are expecting another good turnout.

Boat mooring/storage

For those of you coming down with a trailer sailor, we have secured excellent fees for our Boat Club facilities.

Keys for the Te Anau harbour and boat club ramp will be available from the Marakura Yacht Club bar together with a form that must be filled out (as from Thursday night).

For a boat to be left on the Te Anau Boat Club hard for the weekend will be just $20.00 per boat plus $10.00 bond for a key. The bond will be repaid when the key is returned.

If anyone wants to leave their boat in the water, the cost is an equally great $25.00 for a berth for the weekend (plus the $10.00 key bond).

Please note that boats on the hard are to be left on the right hand side near the trees as you enter through the gate. Please respect Club members who will be using the facilities over the weekend too

Although Te Anau does have a public wharf available, please be aware that this does not allow for access to the boat harbor, nor any jetty.
